“Remember”: Dixon High School’s Tribute Mural

Last week, I was privileged to reveal the 1st section of my latest mural, "Remember." This is my most important mural I’ve ever been commissioned to create. It’s a 3.5’ x 60' long work-in-progress public artwork, to be installed in my hometown at Dixon High School, with a tentative June 2020 installation.

"Remember" honors 3 students who died in 2019 and teacher, Mr. Shawn Tutt. The students would’ve graduated this spring.

I chose to illustrate the "seasons of life," starting with winter on the left edge, as a stream wanders 60' along the mural, ending in autumn on the right. Both boys loved snowboarding and camping, So I included snowboards, squaw Valley and a few critters from family stories. Samantha was into Harry Potter, and I honored her love of Harry Potter with "Hedwig” in this 18’ section of the mural.

“Remember” is generously donated by Colleen & Jim Schneider to Dixon High School, Home of the Rams. The schneiders had the idea for the mural to accompany a peaceful sitting area they have created in the Dixon high quad, complete with adirondack chairs. They wanted to add warmth to the sitting area and offer a peaceful place for students to reflect. The mural and sitting area will bring the students some healing to these devastating events.

Enjoy these progress photos and the rendering.

Watch how I chalked and lined the 1st section of this 60 foot mural.

Please take a moment to reflect on the lives of these vibrant, adventurous and intelligent students by reading their memorials and obituaries below. I’ve also included the memorial for well-loved teacher, Mr. Shawn Tutt.
