New Tiki Mural : Exploring Ancient Images In A Modern Setting

I wanted to test a new mural technique for larger public projects. This is “Chalchiuhtlicue, Aztec Goddess Of Horizontal Water,” an idea I've wanted to paint for about 15 years. I’ve always wanted to paint a big cat, too! I painted the image in my studio on special fabric. Then I installed the large painting on an outside surface. It looked strange on the wall by itself, so I created a trompe l'oeil space by painting in an alcove with water pouring through.

I’m amazed by the expert creative stone craftsmanship of the Aztecs. They were and are brilliant people.
